Visiting Hajom

There's something special about quality. We visited Hajom Skjutdörrar and toured the factory where they do the whole process—from timber through planing and gluing to painting—ending with a sliding door system with millimeter precision.

Hajom Skjutdörrar

Over a hundred years of carpentry history. Hajom Skjutdörrar supplies the Nordic region with premium handcrafted products, where the wood is carefully worked by master carpenters in the factory in Hajom.

A couple of years ago, we built the website for Hajom Skjutdörrar.

When it was time for a follow-up, we took the opportunity to ask if we could come by for a tour of the factory. After putting on safety glasses, safety shoes, and a yellow vest, the first thing that hits you when you enter the factory is the smell of wood. It smells just as good as it did in the woodworking classroom back in elementary school.

A pallet of pine that has just arrived at the factory. The Classic series is made from pine, while Architech can be had in a range of different wood types.

In the factory in Hajom, which is much larger than it appears from the road, all sliding doors are made to order. The doors can be made from everything from pine to Accoya, ash, oak, teak, or sapele.

In our industry, most things are digital. And while we also work with quality and a different kind of craftsmanship, the end result is rarely something as tangible as a product made of wood, glass, and metal.

The fact that all products are hand-painted, oiled, or stained before being assembled means that every part of the product is treated and resistant.

It might be a somewhat clumsy analogy, but it’s fairly similar to how we think. We also want to build our technical solutions on parts that are all "primed" and properly customized—building blocks and solutions that are durable and can be built upon.

Hand-painted. Each panel that is to be painted is painted by hand. Here there are two different colors side by side.
Almost finished, but the glass is still missing. The vast majority of panels are delivered with glass.

After spending an hour in the factory, it must be said that it’s very pleasant to see that this kind of craftsmanship still exists today. Craftsmanship and materials that do not compromise on quality, craftsmanship that costs a bit more than the mass-produced and factory-finished alternatives but which is still chosen by many customers who feel the same way.

The feeling you take with you is rather that it is, in fact, strange that these types of products are not that much more expensive than competing products, despite being made in this way.

Finally, we hope our customers see us the same way: a bit more expensive than the cheapest solutions on the market, but built with craftsmanship and care so they can be modified and built upon over time to adapt the systems to the business—rather than the other way around.
